Chef Nicholas On The Road

As most of you probably know, Chef Nicholas is on the road traveling all year long, around the world to so many different events for the Sugar Arts.  It’s hard to keep up with his schedule and keep track of where he is going to be next because he is so busy.  I am going to do my best to keep up with him from a virtual level and report back here to everyone.

This week, Chef Nicholas is traveling to Milan, Italy for the FIPGC Cake Designers World Championship.  This is an international competition that only happens every two years.  This year, it will be held on October 19 – 20 and will have literally thousands in attendance.  FIPGC stands for Federazione Internazionale Pasticceria Gelateria Cioccolateria or to translate, it is the International Federation of Pastry Gelato Confectionery.  Thank you Google Translate!

They say that this is the biggest event on an international level and Chef is going to be right in the middle of it all.  The main judging will be on taste and presentation.  Judges will be monitoring the set-up of the competitor’s kitchens on Friday and then watching them all day Saturday and Sunday while they create their one-of-a-kind wedding cake master pieces.  There will be 18 different countries competing for the title of World Champion.  Nine teams will compete on Saturday and the remaining 9 teams will compete on Sunday.

Chef said “I’m excited to be participating in this global pastry event!  I am honored to be the judge to represent the United States”.

If you are in the area of Milan, I would highly recommend going to see this event!  If you are not able to attend, I would suggest keeping up-to-date on the latest event happenings by checking out Chef Nicholas’ Facebook page at Nicholas Lodge Facebook.   Although I have not been to this event personally, maybe I can fit in his suitcase in 2 years and go with him!  You can also check out the event website at www.internationalfederationpastry.com

For those of you who might want to compete in this event in 2 years, here is your chance.  There are several cake shows that are happening around the country that will be holding Qualifying Competitions as part of their show.  These competitions will help to narrow down the person that is going to go to the FIPGC event in 2021 and represent the United States.  Here is a list of the places where the competitions will be held.

I hope you are considering being a part of the competition and maybe make it to the World Champion to compete with other talented cake designers.

Stay Sweet and Keep Learning!

Lastly…..  a CORRECTION from last week’s blog:  I wanted to let you all know that on last week’s blog, I told you the Antler mold was a Flower Pro mold, but that was not correct.  The Antler mold is from The NL Collection along with some other pretty amazing molds like the Nuts & Berries mold.  I apologize for the confusion to everyone!
