Hello July!

Goodbye June. Hello July!

Boy oh boy, June was such a busy month for us here at ISAC! We had five different classes- New Trends in Gumpaste Flowers, Summer Gumpaste Flowers, 2-Day Ultimate Rose, Modern Marie Antoinette (with Chef Nicholas and Chef Lauren Kitchens), and Grand Master of the Jedi Order: Yoda with Lauren Kitchens! It was fun having all those classes, catching up with returning students, meeting new students, and having Chef Lauren was such a treat! Chef Nicholas, ever the dedicated teacher, hopped a plane to Japan last Wednesday so that he can teach at our sister school: Nicholas Lodge Sugar Art Gallery Japan. He will be teaching there for a total of two weeks. If you are one of our blog readers in Japan- I hope you are having fun with Chef Nicholas! We miss him here in the USA!

Classy Cake Classes

What do we have up our sleeves in July? Just one class. Yep, one. Ya know what? That one class is going to be AMAZING! Why? Because we are going to have yet another Food Network: Challege winner teaching at the International Sugar Art Collection! Atlanta’s very own cake hero, Joshua John Russell will be teaching a two day class with us July 12-13, 2014. We have quite the history with Joshua, he took his first class with us when he was studying baking and pastry arts at Johnson & Wales University! Joshua will be teaching an elegant Tiffany & Co. inspired cake entitled, “Along Came a Spider.”

Along Came a Spider

(Dramatic Pause)

I can read your mind right now. SPIDER?! Don’t be scared, the cake spider won’t bite. It will however take your breath away. The spider looks like a beautiful bejewled vintage Tiffany & Co. brooch. The cake itself, I just love it! The color scheme is a lovely combination of pastels and gold. This is one of those classes in which you get so much more than you see; the skills you are learning can be applied to so many different cake decorating projects. Oh, and you will be able to make even the most stylish halloween parties even better with that fancy spider! I can’t wait to see Joshua’s cake, and all of his students’ cakes! You might be thinking, “Geez, Stephanie is so lucky to work at ISAC and see all these great classes.” Well, don’t be jealous:

1. I’m not a student, just a silent witness to cake greatness.

2. There is still a spot for you in Joshua’s class! :D

Joshua teaching in our very own Studio B last year. Looks fun, doesn’t it?

I can’t tell you how many comments we got on facebook from people who were kicking themselves for not signing up for Lauren Kitchen’s class with us. Don’t fall prey to cake decorating class envy (that is totally a thing). When we post pictures of Joshua’s class on Facebook and Instagram I want you to be the one saying, “That was the BEST class I have ever taken!” I do not want you to hear, “Oh no! I am so jealous that I didn’t take that class! I love Joshua John Russell!” Listen, I’m just trying to look out for you, I want you to be happy. This class will make you happy. Yes, even with the spider. I promise. If you want to sign up for this class, you can find information on our website here. Or you can call us up at 1-800-662-8925

ISAC at ICES

The second half of July will be spent preparing for the annual ICES convention! This is an exciting year because we will be debuting a new book featuring modern flowers at the convention. Chef Nicholas has selected 16 beautiful and stylish flowers for this edition. I’ve been involved with the production with the book, and I think everyone will be very pleased and impressed with what Chef Nicholas will be teaching you throughout its pages. I’m pretty bummed the convention is all the way in New Mexico… if it was closer to Atlanta I would totally try and convince Chef Nicholas and Scott to take me along! I mean, come on- I could write the mother of all cake blogs about ICES! I would make so many new friends, see lots of amazing cakey goodness, and buy fun stuff. Mostly I would probably drive Scott nuts. I have a knack for that. I bet he is shaking his head at me right now. Ha!

Sigh, it’s not meant to be this year. Maybe next year. Oh wait, it’s in Nebraska… maybe 2016. ;)

Sweetly yours,

Stephanie
