25 years of Gingerbread!

photo-3-936x622.jpg

This year not only marks the 25th anniversary of Nicholas Lodge’s International Sugar Art Collection, it also marks the 25th anniversary of another tradition that the ISAC family holds near and dear: the Omni Grove Park Inn National Gingerbread House Competition!

Judging the winning entry from 2016

Back in 1992 a group of local community members got together to build some gingerbread houses as a way to celebrate the holiday season. There were no plans to keep it going the following year. And yet, here we are, more than two decades later and these competition has become both one of the most competitive and most celebrated holiday events! It is the largest event of its kind in the United States. As this friendly holiday gathering became a nationally recognized competition, the caliber of both the competitors and judges increased, and Chef Nicholas has been a judge for the last 15 years.

I write about this competition every year in this blog. It is a huge event, with extremely talented competitors (in every one of the four age categories), and boast national television coverage. That’s right; this even has been featured on Food Network, Travel Channel, and ABC’s Good Morning America. Oh, and did I mention the prizes are pretty amazing too?

The registration for the 25th Anniversary of the Omni Grove Park Inn National Gingerbread House Competition is now open, and the deadline to apply is Friday, November 3, 2017. That leaves just under two months until the big event! Whether you are a seasoned gingerbread house veteran, or a novice, designing and building alone, or with a team this competition is so much from to be a part of! I love seeing the variety of themes, designs, and styles that this competition brings. The jaw-dropping creations in the adult category and the adorable entries in the child category (kids 5-8) make me equally happy.

If you haven’t enjoyed the Omni Grove Park Inn National Gingerbread House Competition before, why not this year? Whether you are a competitor or a spectator, the 25th anniversary is sure to be a stunning show of gingerbread, sugar, and holiday fun!
