Sweet Summer Classes

Lace_Wedding_Cake_2.jpg

Memorial Day is just around the corner, and that means summer fun is officially on its way! June is a BIG month at ISAC; Sidney Galpern is returning to Studio B with three isomalt classes, and Chef Nicholas has two classes (including a BRAND NEW CLASS)!

Two weeks ago, here on the blog, I discussed all three of Sidney’s classes, so I will recap them quickly (if you would like more in depth info, you can read that post by clicking here). On June 11th, Sidney will actually be teaching two half day classes: Beer on Ice and The Shoe is on the Other Foot. Both classes will feature custom isomalt molds designed by Sidney, and each student will get to take home the mold they use in the class! That’s pretty fantastic and all, but I am most excited to see Sidney teach her Simi Isomalt Transfer Sheets. It’s a brand new product that Sidney recently created, and honestly, it’s like some kind of amazing magic. Check out the video below and see for yourself. Finally, on Sunday, June 12, Sidney will be teaching her Dancing Dolphin isomalt cake topper class. There are only a few seats left in each of Sidney’s classes, so you still have time to join in! You can learn more about the classes by clicking their names, or the link for the blog post above.

Chef Nicholas isn’t letting Sidney have all the fun though! Next weekend, June 4-5, he will be kicking off summer with Exotic and Tropical Flowers. Pretend you are in the tropics while Chef Nicholas teaches you how to create Hibiscus, Plumeria, Bird-of-Paradise, Bougainvillea, Anthurium and White Ginger, and Tropical foliage. These are great for summer weddings or destination weddings. I lived in the Caribbean for a year, so every time Chef Nicholas teaches this class I get homesick for sunny beaches and warm breezes!

If your summer brides are looking for a more shabby chic or vintage cake design, then you are going to be very excited to hear that Chef Nicholas has a BRAND NEW class this month: Vintage Lace Wedding Cake! Ok, so this could also just be a celebration cake for a shower or birthday too; let’s not limit ourselves. ;) Chef Nicholas will instruct students on how to create a simulated gumpaste burlap fabric flower and burlap ribbon, pearls and plaques, silhouettes, lace techniques, and chalkboard techniques. This cake is show-stopping gorgeous in my opinion; this is a class not to be missed. This class was just announced this week, but because it is new new new, it will likely fill up very fast. Please don’t miss your chance to learn all these new and very popular design elements!

Finally, I have a sneak peek at a Studio B class in August: Bird of Parrot-dise. In this class, International award winning Master Cake Artist Bryson Perkins, will teach his students how to be competition ready by learning how he created this 12″ tall life-like parrot (the completed project, with perch and base, will be approximately 16″ tall). Techniques to build a stable armature, sculpting with modeling chocolate, how to make hand cut feathers, and artistic, life-like coloring using petal dust will be covered. He will also share his secrets to building an outstanding Best in Show masterpiece. Bryson is fairly new to the cake decorating world, but he hit the scene- piping bags ablaze! He opened his bakery in 2012, has made cakes for charitable organizations, politicians, and celebrities, won over 40 top professional honors, and just this year was included in the Top Ten North American and Top Ten International cake artists lists!

Well folks, there you have it. Tons of fun and exciting classes from both Chef Nicholas and two visiting instructors; beer, shoes, dolphins, flowers, burlap and lace, and a parrot. What more could you ask for?! Ha! I do hope that you saw at least one class that you are interested in trying, you all know how I love meeting you and seeing you in class. So tell me, which class are you most excited about?

Sweetly yours,

Stephanie
