garden roses 2015

Hello 2015!

The Year of the Cake: 2015

Well, hello there! I’ve really missed writing fun blogs for you all! I did short blogs the last two weeks since both Christmas and New Year’s Day fell on Thursday (my normal publishing day). I love all the readers, but hey- family comes first. With the holidays now behind us, I’m ready to dive into writing new, interesting, and fun blogs for all of you to enjoy! This week I am going to entice you with two classes and a special little sale that we have coming up.

Chef Nicholas Lodge Classes

Chef Nicholas was very busy throughout December teaching students at the French Pastry School in Chicago. We are so excited that he is back home at ISAC, and in January he is teaching two great classes: Garden Roses in Gumpaste and New Trends in Rolled Fondant. If you have been thinking of trying a class with us, both of these classes are perfect for you! First of all, and I know I have said it numerous times on this blog, Chef Nicholas is a WONDERFUL teacher. Second, the classes are both just two day classes- easy to fit into your schedule.

In our Garden Gumpaste Roses class (January 19-20), students will create four lovely garden roses: David Austin Rose (my favorite of the four), Harrison’s Yellow Rose (or Yellow Rose of Texas), Cherokee Wild Rose, and the Avalanche Rose. With the blooms you will also create buds and leaves, and of course, they will be botanically accurate. If you do wedding cakes, this class is a must- what bride doesn’t include roses? In fact, the Avalanche rose is one of the most popular wedding roses… just saying!

Last year, we introduced our New Trends in Rolled Fondant class. It was incredibly successful with our students, so it is back by popular demand (January 24-25)! In this class, students will learn loads of hot new styles like chevron patterning, applique work, several different ombre methods, and various textures. Students will be working on two tier square cake- plenty of sides to learn all types of trendy techniques! This class is wonderful because you can use all these different design elements on wedding cakes, party cakes, birthday cakes, the list goes on. I said earlier this class was wonderful for those who have been considering a class with us- and it is. You will try so many new fondant techniques, and get to see just how great taking a class with us can be! Oh, and if you are one of our veteran students but missed the opportunity to take this class last year, now is your chance to sign up!

Oh, and for you first timers- don’t forget both of these classes offer Scott’s delicious and homemade lunch and his freshly baked cookies at Cookie Time! Seriously, why haven’t you signed up yet?! We can’t wait to see you in class!

In-sidewalk Sale!

ISAC will be having an In-sidewalk Sale from January 17-25. What is an In-sidewalk Sale you ask? Well, Chef Nicholas has done some New Year’s organizing in his classroom, and we are offering many very gently used classroom products for deeply discounted prices. We are selling books, tap-it sets, cutters, molds, patchwork cutter sets, bench scrapers, pastry cutters, piping tips… so many different things. As I said, all the products on sale were used in Chef Nicholas Lodge classes. While they are “used” items, all are in excellent condition. Some have only been used once or twice. If you have taken a class witch Chef Nicholas, you know that he takes very good care of his class supplies. We would love you to stop by our shop and check out our sale! Unfortunately, this sale is in-house only, and will not be available online.

I hope that all of you out there are as excited for 2015 as we are; we hope to see you all in at least one class this year! Until Next week!

Oh, and one more thing. We have new hours at our retail gallery- so if you are a frequent shopper take note! Monday through Thursday our hours are 10am-5pm, and Friday and Saturday our hours are 10am-4pm. As always, we are closed on Sundays.

Sweetly Yours,

Stephanie
